Dear Mr. Moderator:
I am writing this on behalf of Erskine College. I am a rising junior and I am thoroughly worried about the future of Erskine College. I went to Erskine eagerly anticipating spiritual growth in Christ in a supportive environment that would be devoted to the glory of God and the furthering of His kingdom. However, when I got there, I found my faith to be attacked and tested on every side from those with influence appointed by the administration. Several of our convocation speakers have made points that are contrary to the Bible and many of our professors are unwilling to stand up for God’s truth for fear of offending students; which, ironically, I find offensive. I’m not trying to say that these professors or speakers are not Christians; but I am saying that they are not encouraged by the administration to advocate God. I was not expecting to complete Erskine without having my faith challenged, but the administration supports and seeks out speakers and professors who do not serve Christ with the same intensity and maturity as many students…
As Christians, our chief end is to glorify God, both personally and as an institution. However, people in positions of power regularly segregate and compartmentalize the various circles of Erskine. There is SCA to provide the obligatory “Christian” events, EEB to provide entertainment, Judicial Council to keep everything fair, and SGA to provide “leadership.” However, we seem to be complacently willing to deny the necessity of being Christ-centered throughout our entire campus community.
Some argue that we would not want to “force” our beliefs onto others, but if we continue to deny the glory of Christ and refuse to openly express His great love for us, then how do we expect the Great Commission to be filled? …I am terrified when I see the end result of the path Erskine is taking. Therefore, I pray that God will turn of hearts of those at Erskine back towards Him and I crave your prayers and support as we seek to instigate the change we long to see.
Thank you,
Megan Busch
